Tips for Choosing the Best Neon Font

That concludes our roundup of the best neon fonts! Not sure which one to choose? Here are some tips to help!

Add a Neon Effect Manually

When you’re choosing a font, don’t limit your search to fonts that already come with a neon glow effect out of the box. You can add the neon light text effect manually in Photoshop by layering up glow and gloss effects, so any font can be a neon font!

That said, while you can add a neon effect to pretty much any font, it tends to look best on certain types of fonts, like outline fonts and inline fonts, as these mimic the shapes of the fluorescent tubes found in real neon signs.

Choose Your Style

There are lots of fonts on this list, and each of them has a different style. Choose a font that matches the mood of your project.

For example, if you’re working on an 80s-inspired design project, choose a retro neon font that evokes that time period. If you’re working on a logo or sign for a more modern bar or nightclub, a classy neon script font might be a good fit.

Consider Contrast

If you’re using two or more fonts in your design, try to pair fonts that complement each other nicely. It’s usually a good idea to incorporate contrast by pairing a heavy font with a light font, or a serif with a sans-serif, etc.

Don’t Forget to Check the License

Before you use any font, you should make sure it has a suitable license for your project. For example, some fonts are free for commercial use but others are only free for personal use. You can’t use the latter in commercial projects unless you purchase the appropriate license.

If in doubt, you can’t go wrong with an Envato Elements subscription. Once you subscribe, you get access to all the fonts on the Envato Elements marketplace with a license that covers you for both personal and commercial use.
